The mission of the Manheim Regional Emergency Management Agency is to develop, coordinate, maintain a comprehensive plan to prepare for, respond to, and recover from, all types of major emergencies that might occur, and lead the Manheim Borough and Penn Township emergency management program. This is accomplished by working daily to coordinate the cooperation of various Borough and Township Departments, Volunteer Units, regional partners, and other organizations that would have a role in any major emergency. Enabling effective preparation for, and efficient response to, emergencies and disasters in order to save lives, reduce human suffering and reduce property loss. To accomplish this mission, the Manheim Regional Emergency Management Agency: · Develops plans and procedures to ensure the highest levels of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. · Maintains a comprehensive, risked-based, multi-hazard emergency management and training program. · Coordinates local resources for mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery operations. During a major disaster or emergency, response and recovery activities are coordinated on site from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). From the EOC, heads of various departments and agencies work in a unified command to respond to the emergency. |

Emergencies occur daily. They include fire, rescue calls, and vehicle accidents. In the home, at school, or in the workplace. Disasters occur when least expected and can deprive people of the basic life necessities like shelter, food, health or the ability to provide for families. In a matter of minutes, disasters can devastate an entire community. A lot can be done to prevent or reduce the impact of disasters. As outlined in our mission statement, the Manheim Regional Emergency Management Agency works to reduce risks, strengthen support systems, and help people in our community prepare for and cope with disasters. Communications between law enforcement, firefighter, rescue, and public works agencies are critical in these emergency situations.
